Avoid These 4 Things, and You'll Fall Flat

The simplest things separate the products with a growing buzz from products that go nowhere. The buzzworthy product comes first -- one so good it can sell itself -- but a good businessperson still will not leave it to fate. It takes teamwork, research, organization, and the ability to make educated decisions quickly.

Teamwork, as explained in an earlier blog post, is essential to getting and staying on task. The right team will motivate and inspire creativity. The team is bigger than your inner circle; networking with others and understanding their experiences helps avoid wasting money on unnecessary marketing tactics.

Focus Your Plan

It is a lot easier to build an outer circle of advisors, mentors, and business partners once you have a clear goal. In order to formulate your goal, you must do research. There are three sections to researching a good objective: What you want to do, what the professionals are doing, and how you’re going to do it better.

For example, when Sean "Diddy" Combs put together his Revolt.TV project, one of the first things he had to do was find a gap in the market. With the majority of the music channels moving towards "reality TV," there was a need and want for an outlet for urban music on TV. The ability to explain the market's need for your project in a way that’s realistic and attainable is the key to pulling the right together. Napoleon Hill's 1938 presentation, "The Mastermind Principle," summarized this. Miami based rapper Rick Ross recently made Hill's presentation popular again with his recent release "Mastermind."

Get it in Writing

Once you have the right people and a solid plan, you have to organize your milestones on paper. This solidifies the plan not only for yourself, but for your team. Doing things in the proper order ensures that each milestone has what it needs in order to be successful. Jumping on every opportunity is not always a good thing -- you could end up in a position that you were not prepared for. You have to be patient and prepared. When your preparation meets opportunity, you will be impressive and successful.

Life Happens. Be Ready.

Remember this: Nothing goes completely as planned, so be ready to adapt as necessary. The ability to make quick corrections gives you the flexibility to make the best of every situation. This is one of employers' favorite traits among employees, according to Inc.com. You must have the ability to create alternate routes as well as know when to bend the rules to provide a more desirable outcome for everyone involved. The attention span of the marketplace has decreased dramatically due to an increase of affordable marketing, especially on the Internet. As a businessperson in the 21st century, you must be able to adapt quickly to trends. Industry leaders inspire trends; your ability to use this influence without becoming a gimmick is the key creative component of marketing and successfully bridging the gap between your product and the leaders.

Your Takeaways

Build your team, do your research, organize your strategy, plan for the worst, and hope for the best. It is much easier said than done, but if you’ve taken the time to read this blog, you’re already on your way. Knowledge is power, and you must continuously seek knowledge to stay ahead.
